Description: The use of DNA SNP testing is becoming more common to help resolve human identification, ancestry, genealogy, and biological relationship issues. Operational challenges have occurred with the increase in this type of testing. Representatives from forensic, ancestry/genealogy, and paternity testing laboratories as well as SNP instrument manufacturers will discuss the current issues surrounding DNA SNP testing. These issues will be relevant to all laboratories and agencies involved in biological relationship testing.

Objectives: After attending the HITA/AABB Workshop participants will be able to:

  • Understand the power of SNP DNA analysis, the types of tests available, and the instrumentation available for analysis.
  • Define at least 4 to 5 operational challenges associated with SNP DNA testing.
  • Identify and implement solutions for overcoming the identified challenges for SNP analysis and reporting.
